We are now vaccinating children aged between 6 months and  5 years. Call the surgery to arrange an appointment.

Patient Participation Group

Lambourn surgery have an active patient participation group. The purpose of the group is to represent the views of the village and surrounding catchment with regard to the surgery. They will ensure any issues raised are aired at the quarterly meetings. They are also kept informed of any developments and news from the surgery. There is always a representative of the surgery present at the meeting.

If you are interested in joining the group please contact the surgery, and we will put you in touch with one of the committee members.

The minutes of the meetings are written by the committee not the surgery. They do not reflect surgery opinion or views unless stated.

Minutes of the October meeting had been distributed and were approved

Matters Arising. The numbering on the prescriptions had not changed

NHS Patients panel-The meeting was mainly Primary Care Commissioning and West Berkshire GP services. Newbury hospital is taking on average, 200 bloods per day and they are suffering from a lot of people missing their appointments- Dr Powell said it was not the same at the surgery where there were very few missed appointments. End of life care for those wising to die at home was discussed and is to be followed up. Jane McCarthy agreed to go to the next meeting on the 4th March.

Surgery report- We have got a medical student as a temporary member of staff- Nick Spath. Some people have commented that he is too young to be a Doctor! He is supervised.

The breast screening service that comes to the surgery every 3 yaers actually had over 800 women eligible for screening. -47 people declined and 116 did not turn up for their appointments.

Louise showed us the results from the latest patient survey, against the average from the PCT and our surgery came out well above the national average. The public can see the results by logging on to NHS choices. One of the questions was about telephone consultations with the nurses and ease of speaking to a nurse on the telephone. Dr Powell explained that at some surgeries they have triage nurses. Lambourn now has a health care assistant who will take more of the nursing tasks like dressings, blood pressures and ECG's.

The surgery is now offering the swine flu vaccine to children aged 6 months to under 5 years. Dr Powell said we didn't really know how many confirmed cases of swine flu there had been. Diagnosis on the telephone had a 10% success rate and face to face a 20% success rate.

End of life care for non cancer patients. A quite powerful talk took place at the healthier select committee on the 19th October-which was followed up after Christmas, and the recommendations were passed round. We seem to have achieved the first step and the council is committed to a progress report from the NHS in 9 months time.

Any other business. None

Date of the next meeting-12th April 2010. 6.30 at the surgery
